Do not take in pledge the garment of a widow.
“Do not take in pledge a garment of a widow” Devarim 24:17
Whether she is poor or rich, neither at the time of the loan or afterwards, nor through the courts.
If he took the pledge from her it is taken back and returned against his will.
If it was lost before being returned, he violates this prohibition as he can no longer return the pledged object.
Applicable in all places at all times for men and women.
