Give honour to a Kohen

 

 “You shall make him holy” Vayikra 21:8

This is that you should sanctify the Kohen so that he is ready and able to bring the sacrifices and to accord him honour.

Make him first in all holy matters, call him up first to read the Torah, to lead the blessing at a meal and to take fine portions first.

We are obligated to sanctify him even if against his will and does not want it.

As it says “You shall sanctify him” even against his will.

If the Kohen has a blemish that he cannot do the required service, we must still honour him.

 

This is applicable in all places and at all times for men and women.
